Amaia Arranz Mendiguren
Ikerbasque Research Professor and Group Leader at the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, where she leads the Laboratory of Humanized Models of Disease.
She obtained her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of the Basque Country (EHU) and conducted postdoctoral research at VIB–KU Leuven in Belgium and the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in the United States.
Her research focuses on understanding human-specific molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie the pathogenesis and progression of Alzheimer´s disease and neurodegeneration, with a particular interest in the role of human astrocytes. Her laboratory combines human iPSC-derived brain cells, human-based models and patient-derived material, together with omics technologies and functional readouts, to investigate disease mechanisms and identify new therapeutic opportunities.
