Arantzazu Belloso Iguerategui
Postdoctoral researcher investigating how Alzheimer's disease risk variants influence human astrocyte states and functions using humanized models and multi-omics approaches.
After earning a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Navarra, Arantzazu Belloso Iguerategui began her research career in neuroscience. She completed her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of the Basque Country, where she investigated the molecular and functional alterations underlying cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease.
She then joined Dr. Xianhua Piao's lab at the University of California, San Francisco, as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on the role of glial cells in brain development, myelination, and major depressive disorder.
In 2026, she joined Arranz's lab. Her current research aims to investigate how Alzheimer's disease risk variants influence human astrocyte molecular states and functions, and how human astrocytes with distinct genetic backgrounds contribute to disease progression.
Her work integrates humanized chimeric mouse models, hiPSC-derived astrocytes, behavioral, imaging, molecular, and multi-omics approaches to better understand Alzheimer's disease.
